The beginning...

As I said before, I have stalked some of the food blogs on here for months. I enjoy reading and living vicariously through my other fellow foodies out there. I have always, always, always loved to bake. I think it's the sweet sugary goodness that makes up my insides (and yes, that could be an accurate depiction... I love my sweets!). Thankfully, I married into a family that shares this love of all things sweet, so I have many guinea pigs to try my tasty treats.

A couple of months ago, I came across 2 different blogs that attracted my attention. The first is the Tuesdays with Dorie group. They have dedicated 2008 to trying each of Dorie Greenspan's confectionary treats in her book "Baking From My Home to Yours." With getting married in April, along with tax season, I was unable to really do anything other than read the blogs each week. Plus, I was being frugal in my outside spending as I wanted to make my wedding the day the most unforgettable day of my life. So, spending $40 on a cook book was out of the question, at least until AFTER the wedding. Well, in trying to catch up from the 2 weeks I was out of commission for the wedding and honeymoon, the blogs slipped my mind. In fact, it wasn't until last week that I really got to read the ones I had been following all that time before. Imagine my surprise when I found that the book of Dorie's was on sale at Amazon. A pure treat if I've ever seen one, and a real steal at about $13. So, I ordered it, along with another book, "Southern Cakes: Sweet and Irresistable Recipes for Everyday Celebrations." Boy, am I ever excited to dive into both of these books. Look out waist line, sweets are coming to the kitchen!

I was unable to participate in this week's Mixed Berry Tart, but I have full intention of 'attempting' the Cheddar Apple Scone challenge for next week. In the mean time, I am going to work on some of the dinner recipes we have at the house... Hopefully pictures and blogs to come soon!!!
